Andrew Serra
GUITAR INSTRUCTOR
Andrew Serra is an aspiring educator, musician, entrepreneur, visionary and martial arts instructor from the San Gabriel Valley, known for his dedication to the arts and commitment to making a positive impact in his community. Currently a senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance for Classical Guitar at Cal State University of Northridge, Andrew’s passion for music has been the driving force behind his academic and professional pursuits.
Demonstrating a deep love for the guitar, Andrew is set to embark on a new phase of his musical journey as he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Flamenco guitar, also at CSUN, starting in the fall of next year. His dedication to mastering different styles of guitar playing was recently recognized when he was awarded a full scholarship to study the Spanish style of guitar in Granada, Spain through the prestigious “La Guitarra Espanola” program. During his time in Granada, Andrew had the privilege of taking master classes with esteemed musicians such as Pepe Romero, Maria Esther Guzman, Margarita Escarpa, Vicente Coves, José Luís Merlín, Pedro Sierra, Manolo Franco and Kai Narezo, culminating in a solo guitar performance at the Town Hall in Granada, Spain. His memorable performance was even highlighted in the online Spanish Newspaper GranadaDigital.es, further solidifying his growing reputation as a talented and promising musician.
In addition to his academic and musical pursuits, Andrew’s commitment to his community is evident in his leadership and mentorship roles. He currently serves as an educator at the Saturday
Conservatory of Music, the Garvey Community Center in Rosemead, New Light Learning Center and the Arcadia Music program. Andrew’s impactful work has been instrumental in establishing the first-ever “Guitar Ensemble” at the Saturday Conservatory, a significant
milestone for the program that has been enriching the lives of students since 1966.
Furthermore, Andrew recognized the need for accessible music education in the Rosemead area, inspiring the inception of the “Rock Band Camp Rosemead” program at the New Light Learning
Center, providing a unique and enriching experience for aspiring young musicians.At the Garvey Center, instructor Andrew Serra sought to go beyond what the previous teachers had done and brought his students to perform on the main stage at the City of Rosemead’s prestigious events such as the Fall Fiesta, Fourth of July Carnival, and the Christmas Tree Lighting.
