Emma Tio

PIANO INSTRUCTOR ASSISTANT
Emma Tio, age 16, is currently a junior at LACHSA (Los Angeles County High School for the Arts) studying classical piano. Outside of school, she has been studying piano for 10 years under her private teacher, Nobuyo Nishizaka. She has won numerous piano competitions including the Medici International Competition, Southern California Junior Bach Complete Work Audition, Southwest Youth Music Festival, and California Association of Professional Music Teachers Contemporary competition and Sonata/Sonatina Competition, The Great Composers International Competition, International Music Competition Rome “Grand Prize Virtuoso”, The Claudette Sorel Piano Competition’s Best Bach Award, and etc.
She has had masterclasses with renowned artists such as Joan Kwuon, Christopher O’Riley, Robert Thies, and Gwhyneth Chen. She has also performed at world known halls such as Carnegie Hall and was invited to play at Teatro Studio, Parco della Musica (Rome, Italy). Emma has been a part of JCM (Junior Chamber Music) for 4 years and was named Debut Artist along with her group in 2021. She was also invited to go on a Korea tour with her trio but was cancelled due to covid.
Emma does numerous volunteer activities in her free time and is a part of many non profit organizations, such as Art Hour, Education Through Music, and etc. She is the secretary for Love Through Music, the Branch Coordinator for JCM’s Student Service Alliance, and also founded Bonding Thru Beats with her friends since 2019. She also teaches piano and theory outside of volunteering and has considerable experience accompanying other instruments and vocalists whether for school or externally.
